do i have to wear a helmet?
Everyone at Southern Lights Dressage must wear a helmet while mounted. There are other barns where you can risk your noggin without a helmet. If you prefer the wind in your hair (or across your bald spot), please ride elsewhere.
Can I turn my trailer around easily?
We have plenty of room for trailer parking and a very large area to turn any size rig around.
Can I pay with zelle or Venmo?
Cash or check only please.
When is payment due?
Payment is due upon arrival and on the 1st of every month for boarded horses.
can i use my own vet/farrier/body work professional?
Yes! You know who keeps your horse in top condition. We encourage you to keep using your favorite horse care professionals while your horse stays at Southern Lights Dressage.
Can I bring my dog?
We love dogs but sometimes dogs and horses don't mix well. Please leave your (totally perfect, awesome, best) dog at home. Your horse wants your undivided attention anyway.
can my horse have different feed during training board?
We feed Hallway and KER products. Horse owners may provide different concentrate/grain products while their horse resides at Southern Lights, at their own expense. Short term training packages do not include concentrate/grain.
We feed orchard grass hay and alfalfa as needed by each horse. Timothy is available at an extra charge.

can my horse have supplements?
We gladly feed owner supplied supplements. We ask supplements to be portioned in Smartpaks or other single use containers.
do you insist on using hay nets?
Hay nets bring on strong emotions from some owners. We use them because we like our horses to have hay almost 24/7. If an owner doesn't like our hay nets, they are welcome to provide a Porta-Grazer for their horse's stall. Horses may also have loose hay on the floor of the stall. We feed a lot of hay. Due to wastage, this option has a $50.00 per month fee.
how much turnout will my horse get?
We know horses have individual preferences when it comes to the great outdoors. We have a few stall potatoes who balk at the thought of more than a few hours away from their cushy bedding. We also have horses who would happily never spend another minute indoors. Our turnout schedule is flexible to meet their needs. We are fully aware that horses are herd animals and enjoy the company of other horses, however, because horses are accident-prone and expensive, we choose to only offer individual turnout.
Do you offer board without training?
Horse owners are not obligated to use any training services while their horse resides at Southern Lights Dressage. Every stall at Southern Lights costs $2100.00 per month. Horse owners may take advantage of no training sessions or up to twenty per month. We do not allow outside coaches. However, we do host private clinics with our favorite trainers.
What happens in bad weather?
We are located in Florida. Our winters are fabulous but the summers can be threatening. Since no one can truly predict the weather, we encourage horse owners to make their own choices when it comes to keeping their horse safe in a tropical storm or hurricane. Horses may stay indoors or outside for the duration of the storm. Owners may move their horses out of the path of the storm or to the local equine storm shelters. Southern Lights Dressage cannot ensure the safety of any horse or human.
